A lot of places that sell electronic cigarettes are not following the rules

More than half of places that sell electronic cigarettes (57%) are breaking the law, according to figures provided by the Public Health SPF. VTM Nieuws reported on the story. The infractions are mainly regarding selling online, labelling or advertising. It is mainly specialised shops that are not sticking to the rules, service-stations and night stores are generally ok.

According to the figures, more than half of establishments don’t stick to the rules around labelling. Advertising them is banned, but 40% of stores still do it. Selling to individuals online is also banned, but nearly all these type of establishments do it.

“The law is strict, but we have to stop people putting themselves in danger”, says Federal Public Health Minister Maggie De Block (Open Vld). “Retailers have time to adapt to legislation, but if really dangerous things are sold we can shut them down”.
