The Federal police needs an extra 1,800 officers

The Federal police needs an extra 1,829 officers, according to figures the Home Affairs minister Jan Jambon (New Flemish Alliance) gave the Commission set up after the 22nd of March attacks. Het Laatste Niews reported on the story on Saturday.

Although the number of federal police officers dropped three years in a row, it went up again in 2017. There were 204 more officers than the previous year on the 1st of January. But there is still a critical lack of officers in all the different departments, except for Information and Human resources (DGR). Ironically, that’s the department that handles recruitment.
