Robert Stéphane, the former RTBF General Administrator, has died

The former RTBF General Administrator, Robert Stéphane, died suddenly on Saturday. The channel announced his death on its internet site on Sunday. He was 85. 

Robert Stéphane was the first face of televised news in 1956. He also headed up the morning news round-ups, the ancestor of VivaCité. 

He was made General Administrator of RTBF in the mid-80s. He introduced advertising to the public service to cope with the challenging financial conditions. 

After his television career ended, he became the President of Bosnian channel OBN.
