De Croo: “Belgium will invest an extra 43 million euros in Women’s Rights”

Belgium will invest an extra 43 million euros in Women’s Rights all over the world. This was announced by the Development Cooperation minister, Alexander De Croo, (Open Vld) on Sunday. He spoke during the international fundraising concert “Global Citizen Mandela 100” in Johannesburg.

The investment is part of “She Decides”, the international campaign Mr Croo launched last year after American President Donald Trump decided to no longer financially support organisations that handle family planning in developing countries.

The total investment will be 43 million euros. 12.4 million euros will go to UN funds to help populations in developing countries. Some will go to UNFPA and UNICEF to fight child marriage and provide better access to contraception.

Belgium has some very important bilateral cooperation programs too. Over the next six years, it will invest 30.5 million euros in sexual and reproductive rights and family planning.
