A Dutch truck carrying over 200 pigs overturned on Friday morning in Brasschaat, Antwerp Province. About 100 pigs died in the accident, which occurred on the Essensteenweg. The driver, who was slightly injured, was taken to hospital, while the surviving pigs were taken away.
The debris was scheduled to be cleared away when all the carcasses were removed, which could take hours. In the meantime, the Essensteenweg remained closed to traffic.
The exact circumstances surrounding the accident were yet to be clarified.
