SNCB launches a "Happy Train" for festive season

A "Happy Train" with three carriages, specially decorated for winter and the Christmas/New Year holidays, will run from Monday until January 6 on the Belgian railway network, the SNCB announced. It will be accompanied by festive events in some major train stations and on the train itself, the national railway utility added.

“Father Christmas and his elves will embark on many occasions” on the Happy Train “and distribute sweets to the travellers,” the SNCB said.

The train, which will be blue, will first run in areas around Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Liège and Charleroi until 21 December. In a second phase, ending on 6 January, it will operate throughout the country, according to a transport plan that can be consulted on the SNCB’s Internet site.

For the festive season, the SNCB is also offering a special, low-priced “Happy Ticket”, costing 10 euros return in 2nd class for any travel within Belgium on the weekend of 15-16 December, and from 22 December to 6 January.

The Go Unlimited formula for young people under the age of 26 years, comprising unlimited train rides over seven successive days, will also be launched during the two-week school holiday.
