Tourist accommodation owners and tour organisers have said they are happy with how this year’s winter holiday period went, according to the East Belgian tourist agency. They have done a poll with 160 of their partners. The holiday period officially ends on Sunday.
The hotel sector said hotels were 68% full.
In total, 77% of the sector’s partners are happy and said it went as well, if not better than, the 2017-2018 holiday period”, the tourist agency says. The agency says the good weather and the fact that the celebrations fell during the week did not seem to have affected the number of reservations.
“Guests booked well in advance, without worrying about the what the weather would be like at Christmas”, says Gary Lux, the director of the Tiefenbach Hotel-Restaurant in Bullange.
The majority of guests were from Flanders.
90% of gîtes and holiday apartments were occupied during the first two weeks of the holiday period, slightly less than the previous year. Despite this, gîte owners are happy. The majority of the guests that stayed in this type of accommodation were from Flanders, the Netherlands and Wallonia (in that order). The tourist agency also revealed that a small percentage of the clientele was from France and England.
Visitors made the most of the good weather and went out. The Maison du Parc in Botrange had 4,386 visitors, many more than the previous year. Museums and other inside locations were less popular.
