Large increase in the number of home visits to job seekers

The number of home visits to job seekers has increased dramatically since 2015, the year they became legal in cases where fraud was suspected. La Libre Belgique reported on the story on Saturday. Onem performed around 341 home visits in 2016 and 648 in 2017.

That’s an increase of 90% in a year. The latest figure available, for the first trimester of 2018, showed 230 home visits. The current rate means there could have been as many as 1000 home visits done in 2018, La Libre reported.

These figures were provided by the Social Fraud minister Philip De Backer (Open Vld), in response to a question by MP Gauthier Calome.
