A delay in some family allowance payments on Friday originated at the Famiwal fund, the Belfius Bank said on Monday. The bank, which is responsible for transferring the money, repeated that it was not to blame for the error. It said Famiwal, one of five family allowance funds in Wallonia, had made errors in the payment files it sent to Belfius, despite repeated oral and written instructions from the bank and meetings between the two institutions between 8 August 2018 and 4 February 2019.
“Unfortunately, the column in the payment file Famiwal sent to Belfius to request an urgent payment was left blank,” the bank stressed.
Some 120,000 families did not receive their allowances on Friday.
People with Belfius accounts received theirs on the scheduled day, but payments through other banks were postponed. They were expected to be received on Monday.
