Ryanair is set to launch seven new routes out of Belgium during the forthcoming winter flying season, beginning at the end of the October. Destinations include Tel Aviv (in Israel) leaving from Charleroi and Seville (Spain) flying out of Brussels Airport, announced the low-cost airline on Tuesday.
In total, the Irish company currently offers 86 routes from Belgium, including 67 out of Charleroi. In market share and employment terms, this equates to the carriage of 8.8 million customers per year and 6,600 jobs within Belgian airports, said the company.
Two new destinations will be served by the Hainaut city: Béziers (France) and Tel Aviv. The five new routes from Brussels Airport will be Catania (Sicily in Italy) Essaouira (Morocco), Kraków (Poland), Pisa (Italy) and Seville (Spain).
During the airline winter season - which is about to conclude at the end of March - Ryanair has operated 81 routes out of Belgium. A year ago, the company estimated that it would carry some 8.3 million passengers annually on these various routes. Being the second largest airline operating in Belgium after Brussels Airlines, the Irish airline claimed to employ around 6,200 people in Belgium at that time.
