Banks will be closed on Friday 19 and Monday 22 April, the Belgian financial sector federation, Febelfin, stated on Tuesday.
Digital payments made by card or via smartphone will be unaffected on these days.
Febelfin advises everyone to plan ahead with regard to withdrawals, in time to avoid any unpleasant surprises. “If you make a digital payment, your payee’s bank will usually receive this payment one day (banking business day) after your own bank has made it. On account of the long weekend, it is possible that the payment will be postponed. On Friday April 19, during the weekend of April 20 and 21 and Monday 22, no payments will be processed,” Febelfin said.
In the case of instant transfers, payment is made directly. This kind of payment is effectively processed immediately, 24/7. And therefore also at night, on holidays and at weekends, whether extended or not.
