A police officer killed his wife and kids, then shot himself – presumably with his service weapon – after an argument got out of hand on Wednesday night, according to the court of Antwerp.
Peter P. first went home where he shot his 9-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter, then went to the café where his wife worked to shoot her as well. He then tried to kill himself. He was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
The man had been working for the Antwerp police for a long time, and it is thought he took his service weapon home. Normally, a police officer is not allowed to do that unless given explicit permission by the chief of police. However, according to the station where he worked, he had not received permission in this case.
