The CGSP Admi union announced on Tuesday that it has given notice of a strike by all federal and local police services for 14 May as part of the national day of action organised by the socialist trade union federation ABVV/FGTB. The strike is aimed at “improving buying power, increasing allowances and pensions, better end-of-career measures, better possibilities for combining professional and private lives,” CGSP Admi said.
“Salary scales were set 20 years ago for the police and have never been revised,” the permanent police representative in CSGP Admi, Eddy Quaino, said. “Moreover, great uncertainty is looming over retirements, with the problems linked to arduous work.”
The strike, which will take effect on 14 May from midnight to 11.59 p.m., will be organised in various federal and local police forces throughout the country. Negotiations will also be held on Wednesday from 14:00 to see if they will join the strike, Quaino said.
Through these actions, the police wish to attract the attention of the political world with the approach of the federal, regional and European elections of 26 May.
The ABVV/FGTB’s national day of action, on 14 May, focuses on increased purchasing power and against social inequality. For the socialist federation, increasing the minimum wage is a major sticking point.
