Last night, on the Brussels Ring in Grimbergen, a 43-year-old man was killed in a traffic accident while crossing the ring-road. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene following the accident and could not yet be traced, according to a statement by the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor's office.
The accident took place around 23:30 when two men tried to cross the Brussels Ring near Grimbergen. While crossing the outer ring, one of them - a 43-year-old from Grimbergen - was hit by a passing car. The victim did not survive that impact.
According to his companion, there were two people in the vehicle on the road who, after the accident, left the car and ran off on foot. They are currently being tracked down. The public prosecutor sent a traffic expert and a medical examiner to the scene. During the investigation, the outer ring was completely sealed off for about three hours.
