A 58-year-old man from Liège, of African origin, was attacked on Tuesday by a 39-year-old man at Tongeren station.

The incident was likely racially motivated, it was reported on Thursday citing a judicial source.

The perpetrator of the attack was arrested by local police. He was referred to the Tongeren investigating judge who ordered his arrest.

The victim had to be taken to hospital and has since been on work leave.
