Over 7% of the Flemish 18 to 24-year-olds has not graduated secondary school, and is not pursuing another degree either, according to figures released by Statistics Flanders.
The proportion of early school leavers has halved over the last 20 years. It was at 13.6% in 1999, but in 2018, only 7.3% of 18 to 24-year-olds in Flanders does not have a secondary diploma.
The number of early school leavers in 2018 for men (9.5%) is almost twice as high as for women (5.1%). In Flanders, the number of students that quit secondary school is lower than in the Brussels Region (10.7%) and in Wallonia (9.9%). Flanders is also doing better than the EU average of 10.6%.
