Flemish students in their first year of high school will travel for free next September on the De Lijn network, the regional public transport company announced on Thursday. This is the second edition of this action.

During the week, De Lijn sent an offer for this "trial membership" worth 33 euros to 64,533 students born in 2007. Young people interested in September’s free trial have until 30 June to register on the site delijn.be/probeeractie.

Students who were not born in 2007 but begin their secondary school in September can also benefit from this offer.

The subscription is valid on the whole network, not just for the journey to school, De Lijn’s Head Roger Kesteloot said. A third of 12-to-17-year-olds had a De Lijn subscription by the end of last year.

"We believe there is still room for growth. With the free September for first-year secondary, we give a boost to those who do not yet know our offer," he said in a press release.
