The continuing bad weather has resulted in high demand for the fire-brigade across Belgium on Monday evening, according to reports from local media.

Heavy rain led to flooding and mudslides in Sint-Truiden, in Limburg, led to 150 calls to the fire-brigade. Huldenberg, in Overijse, experienced similar cases of mudslides following a heavy downpour. Meanwhile, in Liege, the fire-department received 40 calls, largely for flooded cellars.

“A sea of water has covered some parts of our city. 150 calls have been received. All of our troops have been called in, all of our equipment is being used and we are working through the evening. Thank you for all the helping hands”, said the Mayor of Sint-Truiden, Veerle Heeren, in a Facebook post on Monday night.

Widespread showers are expected to continue across the southern half of the country on Tuesday, moving to the central and northern regions on Wednesday.
