The man – who was reportedly mentally ill – had attacked another man with a sharp object, leading the police to shoot the perpetrator. The police are on the spot en masse and have closed the intersection.
The precise details of the incident are not yet clear. According to De Standaard, the police arrived in the apartment building because the mother of an – allegedly mentally ill – man was worried and had called the emergency services about her son.
Upon arrival, police witnessed a fight in which the suspect attacked another man with a sharp object. He was shot in the belly and died of his injuries. The second victim was said to be seriously injured. This information is yet to be officially confirmed.
