As summer approaches and lavender fields bloom, French farmers are making a plea to tourists - 'Stop taking selfies in our lavender fields.'
In search of the perfect selfie, tourists dive into the lavender, trampling the bushes and destroying the livelihoods of the farmers, something which they say has to stop.
"Our hearts break when we see people jumping through the fields", they say, reports Het Nieuwsblad. The impact has led to an increasing number of farmers to set up fences to protect their fields.
This phenomenon has already been seen by Dutch tulip growers earlier this year. Many Dutch tulip fields are now set up with warning signs, and since this summer volunteers have been patrolling the fields to keep from damaging the flowers.
