The 250 ANPR cameras scattered in 22 locations on Belgian roads have reported 539,949 vehicles over the last 12 months, that could pose a problem.

N-VA parliament minister Wouter Raskin, obtained has these numbers from the Minister of Interior, Pieter De Crem.

However over half of the cases have not been followed up on, De Tijd reports.

De Crem says that about half of these cases involve vehicles with either faulty insurance (52,397), or that have failed the technical control (214,506).

According to De Crem, the goal of this procedure was to eventually transmit information to the police authorities where the offenders reside.
