Police and customs services from Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and France collaborated on a cross-border operation against drug trafficking and drug tourism.
During the cross-border operation, which took place between 14 and 17 November, the police seized five guns, 8.742 kg of marijuana, 2.261 kg of space cake, 260 grams of hashish and 1.230 kg of cocaine, the Belgian Federal police stated.
Almost all of the seized cocaine was found on one woman, who was travelling from French Guiana in South America on the Thalys train between Antwerp and Rotterdam. During an X-ray check in the hospital, 144 'bolletas' of eight grams each were found in her body, good for a total of 1.152 kg of cocaine with a street value of €57,600.
In Belgium, 8 kg of marijuana, with a total street value of €80,000 was found in a vehicle. The driver, who lives in Belgium, said they were coming from Maastricht, a Dutch city right on the Belgian border, and on their way to Mouscron in Wallonia, right on the French border.
Of the 1,659 people that were stopped for a check, 183 were in possession of drugs, 10 people were under the influence, 10 people were arrested and 10 vehicles were seized.
