Sharp increase in candidates for veterinary studies orientation exam

A total of 849 students have registered for the first session of the veterinary studies orientation exam, scheduled for Wednesday, the Academy of Research and Higher Education, Ares, disclosed on Tuesday. Lat year, 567 candidates were registered for the July session and 711 for September. The spokesperson of Ares told the Belga news agency that no explanation had been found for this session’s strong increase.

The TOSS (Orientation test for the health sector) became compulsory in 2016, but the result does condition access to the programme. Students who have sat the test can register for the veterinary medicine programmes in one of four universities in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation: Ulg, UCL, ULB and UNamur. The TOSS exam is organized simultaneously in the four universities.

The first session on Wednesday will be followed by a second, scheduled for Friday, the 7th of September. Registrations for that session are open until the 29th of August.

The candidates are tested on Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French and English. Their scores are used to assess their mastery of the prerequisites and, where required, allow them to take part in upgrade classes run by the universities.

Last year, 12.4% of the candidates obtained a global average of 10/20 or more in July, and 9.6% in September.
