Flanders invests 150 million euros in creating school spaces

The Flemish government will invest 150 million euros over the next three years to create extra spaces in schools. 130 million euros will be spent on secondary schools, which are severely underfunded, the Flemish Education Minister Hilde Crevits (CD&V) said on Friday.

Flanders has spent 372 million euros on additional primary school spaces since 2010, which should eventually create 40,00 extra spaces.

Now it is secondary schools that need attention. Studies show that around 58,500 extra spaces could be needed by 2024.

The regional government has decided to spend a significant amount of this money on secondary school education, particularly in Antwerp, Ghent, Louvain and Brussels.
