The number of jobless people is decreasing in Brussels. The unemployment rate for the Brussels region was at 18.4% last month, compared to 20.6% in November 2014, revealed the regional employment office Actiris on Wednesday.
There were 100,774 unemployed job seekers in the Brussels-Capital Region at the end of November, which is 8,722 fewer than in November 2014. At the same time, the number of job seeker voluntary or mandatory registrations went up by 4.7% on an annual basis. Actiris explains the increase by the greater number of people who are being refused unemployment benefits (in particular because of the 3-year limitation period for social inclusion benefits) and also by the ever-stricter rules to qualify for these social inclusion benefits. Some job seekers in this situation register with Actiris to receive social inclusion income from CPAS (Public Social Assistance Centres).
Unemployment among the younger generation is still falling, reaching 27.8% in November this year compared to last year’s 29.8% and 32.1% in 2013. Actiris directly placed 2,137 job seekers in November. This represents an increase of 234 job offers compared to the same month last year.
