FGTB Steelworkers in Wallonia and Brussels file six-month strike notice

Steelworkers in Wallonia and Brussels have announced that they have filed strike notice with effect from Friday and valid until the 31 December 2016 so as to cover « all types of action that need to be taken in the coming months.
The steelworkers, who belong to the General Federation of Belgian Labour, FGTB, said in a communique on Friday that their action was aimed at showing their solidarity with the struggle waged for many weeks now by their comrades from the Belgian Public Sector Workers Union, CGSP, against “the unceasing offensives by the Michel-De Wever government against the public services”.

"This is why, faithful to their principle of systematic support for all unions or sectors involved in a long-term struggle in defence of workers’ interests, the steelworkers stand side by side with the FGTB’s Belgian Public Sector Workers Union and are readying themselves for battle,” they warned.

The FTGB steelworkers called on « all delegates to hold general assemblies in their places of work with the aim of explaining the current situation». (Belga)
