Secretary of State for Asylum Policy and Migration, Theo Francken, issued a call Tuesday to employers, during a presentation at Cercle de Wallonie at Namur, asking them to do their part in the process of activation towards employment for refugees in Belgium, with a view to their adequate integration. The activation of 25,000 refugees recognized in Belgium in 2015 (out of 45,000 who requested asylum) constitutes “the greatest challenge in the short- and long-term for Belgium,” judged Mr. Francken (N-VA), while stating being worried about the level of training of these persons. “Am I being pessimistic? No, the answer is ‘integration, integration, integration.’ These 25,000 can be integrated. But this requires goodwill on the part of everyone, including that of employers like yourselves,” asserted the Secretary of State before the organization of employers of the region during a presentation at which he defended his migration policy.

Regarding the process of obligatory integration being instated in Wallonia, “better late than never,” he commented, considering that Flanders has such a system in place since over ten years ago.
