General strike: “a clear message” to Kris Peeters

Friday’s general strike has been described as a success by Belgium’s Christian trade union federation, the CNE. “A clear message has been sent to the Minister of Economic Affairs, Kris Peeters,” the federation said in a press release on Friday.
« Strike, information and awareness actions have been carried out as scheduled in companies and institutions in all our sectors,” the CNE said. “This day has been yet another opportunity to inform the workers of the consequences of the antisocial measures of the Michel Government, particularly Minister Kris Peeters’ labour reform project. Far from being out of breath or exhausted, people remain committed.”

"Charles Michel can conduct huge communication operations and call us liars, the workers see day by day what this policy is costing them, » CNE Secretary-General Felipe Van Keirsbilck said.

The next big dates in the CNE’s national plan of action are a demonstration against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) treaty on September 20 and a general strike on October 7, the CNE recalled.
