Every other day, a person loses his life because of a workplace accident in Belgium. “But while the labor inspectors’ number is decreasing, the number of accidents which are not approved by insurers is on the increase,” observes Monday Herman Fonck of the Christian Union ACV in the Het Nieuwsblad, Gazet van Antwerpen, Het Belang van Limburg and De Standaard.

Statistics vary widely from one insurance company to the other, according to the sectoral supervisor Fedris. The Assuralia Federation has no explanation for this divergence but suggests differences in clients’ portfolio as well as in commercial approach between insurers.

For its part, L’Avenir notes in its pages a first in the sector in Belgium: Ethias now offers in its workplace accident coverage a professional reinsertion program. The aim is to help the seriously injured to find a job again.
