Belgium has Eurozone’s highest unfilled vacancy rate

Belgium has the Euro zone’s highest rate of unfilled vacancies, 3.5%, way above the regional average of 2.1%, according to figures for the second quarter of 2018, published on Monday by the European Statistical Office, Eurostat. The Netherlands’ unfilled vacancy rate, 3.1%, was the next highest, followed by Germany’s (2.9%). The only European Union (EU) member state with a higher vacancy rate was the Czech Republic (5.4%).

In the second quarter of 2017, the vacancy rate for the Euro zone had been 1.9%.

The rate for the EU was 2.2% in the second term of 2018, which was similar to the preceding quarter and higher than the rate for the second quarter of 2017, which was 2.0%.

During the second quarter of 2018, Euro-zone vacancy rates were 1.9% in Industry and Construction and 2.4% in Services. The corresponding rates for the EU as a whole were 2.1% in Industry and Construction, and 2.5% in Services.
