More than 33,000 SMEs have hired, thanks to exemption of basic contributions

33,612 managers have so far been able to benefit from the measure within the frame of the tax shift which allows hiring “first-time employees” with "zero fees" (exemption of basic social contributions). The measure had been introduced in 2016 to allow small businesses to hire employees. In the first quarter of this year, 2,445 companies joined the pool of beneficiary employers, which have so far totaled 33,612 new job posts in late March. A little over half of the beneficiaries were from Flanders.

The sectors that are most interested by this measure are trade, with 20% of the beneficiaries, followed by construction (15%), the catering industry (13%), and professionals (12%).
