This year was the fourth “Movember” campaign, during which men are asked to let a moustache grow for a month to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. 2014 saw 181,000 euros raised in Belgium and around 60 million worldwide, the organizers said in a press release on Friday. Even though the “Movember” action officially ended on the 30th of November at midnight, “Mo Bros and Mo Sistas have until the 9th of December to collect donations”, said the press release by the Movember Foundation.
In Belgium, the 5,064 participants raised more than 181,000 euros, a record. The money raised will be partly invested in research by Professor Johan Swinnen, president of the Oncology department at KULeuven. The rest will be spent on tests on testicular cancer, entitled “TIGER”.
Around 717,000 people took part worldwide, and they raised 60 million euros in donations.
