The Scientific Institute of Public Health (Institut Scientifique de la Santé Publique, ISP) has drawn up a profile of the average drug user (being treated) in Belgium. They are 31 years old, live with their parents, and are unemployed. This was reported by the Gazet van Antwerpen, Het Nieuwsblad and De Standaard on Tuesday. Recently, data for all drug users in hospital or a specialized treatment center were anonymously entered into a register. It already has 9,000 profiles.

“This way, the relevant authorities can better target their prevention campaigns”, says Lies Gremeaux from the ISP.

The Institute has also drawn up a profile of patients addicted to alcohol or cannabis. In the first case, the average profile is a 39 year old single man, and the second profile is a young person of 24 still living at home
