Doctor’s appointments will be reimbursed more quickly

Doctor’s appointments will be reimbursed more quickly from the 6th of February. From then, GPs will be able to issue electronic treatment certificates which will be instantly sent to the patient’s health insurer, the Het Nieuwsblad, Het Belang van Limburg and De Standaard reported on Saturday.

Patients will no longer have to send their certificates to their health insurers themselves. The insurer will also no longer handle the certificates manually. This reduces the risk that the certificate will be forgotten or lost.

The Public Health Minister Maggie De Block (Open Vld) says patients should be reimbursed automatically in 2 or 3 days. Health insurers have been preparing over the last few months and say there should be no problems. GPs are said to be happy with these changes, even if not all of them will be ready for the 6th of February and some don’t have the appropriate software.
