The report of the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain, AFSCA, on the Veviba company was sent to Parliament on Monday afternoon, the Office of Agriculture Minister Denis Ducarme announced in a press release. Minister Ducarme stated on Monday morning at the end of a session of the Economic Affairs and Public Health Commissions that he was awaiting the green light of the Office of the Public Prosecutor to submit the document to the parliamentarians.
“The Afsca report, in substance and in annexes, except for an annex considered by the Office of the Public Prosecutor to be covered by the confidentiality of judicial investigations, has thus been submitted to Parliament”, the press release stated.
On Friday, the Prosecutor General within the Liège Appeal Court, Christian De Valkemeer, did not accede to a formal request from Parliament to release the Afsca report to it, preferring to verify all the substantive documents and annexes so as not to compromise judicial confidentiality.
A new session of the Economic Affairs and Public Health Commissions has been programmed for Wednesday morning. It is to be attended by the ministers concerned by the Veviba affair and an Afsca representative.
Meanwhile the Council of Ministers on Friday approved the launch of two audits, one on the internal functioning of Afsca and the other on its control policy.
