More and more employees regularly go to work on their bike and receive a bicycle indemnity. In 2017, their percentage passed over 15%, is what emerges from figures published Monday presented in Acerta’s HR services group, 2017 mobility barometer.
In 2017, close to one out of four employees (24,21%) was regularly using his/her bike to go to work. And over 15% of them were receiving a bicycle indemnity of 31 € per month on average on top of their salary.
“More and more professional sectors oblige employers to pay a bicycle indemnity to their employees. However, many employers spontaneously decide to grant it as part of the ‘greening’ in their mobility policy,” explains Ellen Lammens, the knowledge center’s legal expert.
Acerta’s survey also shows that combined mobility is increasingly popular, since its annual increase rate is 9%. Thus, many workers do not limit themselves to just one means of transport to travel between their home and workplace. They alternate between their car, their bicycle, or public transport to go to work.
“The most common combination is the alternative use of bike and car. 8.74% of the employees go to work this way. Only 0.8% of employees alternately use bike and public transport, and 0.5% alternate between their private car and public transport,” Acerta states in its communiqué.
