The Namur public prosecutor’s office has classified the offenses committed by Jean-Charles Luperto, Mayor of Sambreville, Walloon deputy and president of the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, as “public indecency in the presence of minor(s) under the age of 16″, said Namur’s public prosecutor, Vincent Macq, on Monday. An official complaint was lodged with the public prosecutor in May regarding public indecency.

An investigation has been ongoing since May and several witnesses have been interviewed, their depositions revealing new information. The prosecutor suggests there were four separate incidents between April and October 2014. The case was sent for examination on October 14th.

Four searches were conducted: one at Mr. Luperto’s home and one at the Sambreville city office on Sunday, as well as at the Walloon parliament and at his office at the Parliament of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation on Monday.

Computers, tablets, smartphones, and other hardware such as USB drives, DVDs, CDs, etc., were taken away during these searches. All these objects will be analysed. “There are many things to look into,” said Vincent Macq, who again emphasises the presumption of innocence.

Jean-Charles Luperto has not yet made a deposition, expected in the coming days. He is still protected by parliamentary immunity.
