Death of Béatrice Berlaimont – a suspect arrested and taken to Arlon police station, neigbourhood blocked off

A person was been arrested on Tuesday at around 1pm and taken to the Arlon police station, located just across from his home in the rue Joseph Netzer. The neighbourhood around the rue Netzer and the rue Casino was blocked off by police and a security parameter set up. A press conference given by the Prosecutor’s office is planned for 5pm at the Arlon Courthouse. This arrest could be linked to the murder of Béatrice Berlaimont, aged 14, whose lifeless body was found in the Sesselich woods on the 1st of December, ten days after her disappearance.

Police closed the neighbourhood around the Arlon police station and the suspect’s home to all traffic at 3.20pm. Barriers were set up and tarpaulins put in place to stop journalists and onlookers observing.

The fire department also put up tarpaulins at the entrance to the suspect’s building, located opposite the Arlon police station. A lawyer, Dimitri Soblet, was spotted going into the police station escorted by firemen.

The Prosecutor’s office will give more information on this arrest during a press conference at 5pm at the Arlon Courthouse.
