Tongres Assizes – Extra security for the trial of a Hells Angel

The trial of Ali I, a Ghent mechanic who is also a Hells Angel, started on Monday morning at the Tongres Assizes court. He is accused to killing two members of rival group the Outlaws and a sympathizer on the 20th of May 2011. Extra security measures were put in place. A federal police helicopter flew over the town center, and barriers were put up around the Courthouse. Around 40 police officers were in buses parked on the Square in front the courthouse.

All people going into the Courthouse had to go through a metal detector.

Freddy Put, 52, Jef Banken, 58, and Michael Gerenkens, 28, were shot in Maasmechelen on the 20th of May 2011. There was a reception for the opening for tyre store Burnout taking place there. The manager is linked to the Hells Angels. Afterwards, the three bodies were hidden in Freddy Put’s Citroën Berlingo and thrown in the Eisden-Dorp canal (Maasmechelen).
