4 arrests and 22 house searches as part of an anti-terrorist case

22 house searches took place on Friday morning in different parts of Belgium, as part of an anti-terrorist case. They are linked to the problem of people going to Syria, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday. Four people were arrested during this vast operation. The instructing magistrate will decide whether they should be retained in custody over the course of the day. According to the federal Prosecutor’s Office, several people were suspected of wanting to go to Syria to fight with a terrorist organization. Friday morning’s operation aimed to dismantle the organization that was recruiting people and sending them abroad.

The federal Prosecutor’s Office wants to make it clear that there is no connection between this case and the anti-terrorist operation against the “Verviers Cell, or the attacks in Paris”, the press release said.

No weapons were discovered during the searches.
