The Bruges Assizes Court sentenced Jacky Labaere (42) to 30 years in prison for the murder of Jeroen Balloey (21), and two attempted murders on Monday.   Kevin Derveaux (24), who dealt the fatal blow with a knife, was sentenced to 22 years. Robin Van Bossuyt (28) and Kevin Goeman (28) were sentenced to 15 and 12 years respectively. The four defendants were part of an Ostende hip-hop group named RAW13, responsible for numerous incidents in Torhout. A week before the stabbing, Labaere and Derveaux were involved in a violent fight and swore revenge.

In the early hours of the 16th of July, around 1am, Jacky Labaere and his stepson Kevin Goeman arrived on the terrace of the café Apropoo in Trohout in their pick-up. Kevin Derveaux arrived later in a Mercedes driven by Robin Van Bossuyt.

Labaere attacked Karim M’hedhebi (40) twice with a cleaver. The victim, seriously injured, was stabbed seven times. Kevin Derveaux, who arrived at the scene later, attacked Christophe Decoene (49), the café bouncer, who he stabbed several times. Derveaux then dealt the fatal blow to Jeroen Balloey (21), who arrived later.

The four individuals immediately left the area after the violent attack, Van Bossuyt in his Mercedes, Labaere, Derveaux and Goeman in the pick-up. The weapons used were not found during the investigation.

The popular jury of the Western Flanders Assizes Court found Kevin Derveaux, Jacky Labaere, Robin Van Bossuyt and Kevin Goeman guilty of the murder of Jeroen Balloey and two attempted murders.
