Fouad Belkacem appeals

The trial of Islamist group Sharia4Belgium, accused of terrorism, will have a sequel at the Appeals Court in Antwerp. Fouad Belkacem is the main offender convicted by criminal courts in this case and launched an appeal against his 12-year sentence and 30,000 euro fine for heading a terrorist group, according to the regional television channel ATV. The information was confirmed by his attorney, John Maes.   “At the first trial there was a technical discussion on whether Sharia4Belgium could be viewed as a terrorist group and whether my client should be convicted for terrorist crimes. We disagree with the decision of the criminal court on this point,” added Mr. Maes, who had called for his client to be released.
