Serge Kubla left the Saint Gilles detention centre on Thursday at approximately 4:15pm. “My client can only feel relief, he is quite distraught,” said Denis Bosquet, attorney for the Waterloo alderman. Mr. Bosquet has yet to hear the exact conditions under which his client has been released, but as far as he knows, there can be no contact between his client and other individuals involved in the case, and he must appear before the court when summoned.
Without commenting on the case itself, the attorney questions whether his client’s preventive custody was really necessary. “Preventive custody should be the exception, only when absolutely necessary for security reasons. I doubt it was the case here.”
