A man from Blegny arrested for growing nearly 450 cannabis plants

A 34 year old man from Blegny was deferred to the Liège Prosecutor’s office on Thursday, after 450 cannabis plants were found at his house. The police went to his house to accompany a bailiff who was going there to seize property. As the home owner wasn’t there, a locksmith had to open the door. The police found 427 cannabis plants in the cellar.

When he was arrested upon his return, he confessed straight away, the Liège Prosecutor’s office said.

The Blegny resident had not been in trouble with the police before, and started to grow cannabis to help with mounting debts. After his company went bankrupt, he sold his car and invested 7,000 euros in equipment and seeds he bought at Maastricht.

According to his statement, he hadn’t done a single harvest before his arrest.
