Double assassination in Aartrijke: suspect confesses and is placed under arrest

A 35-year-old man from Aartrijke was arrested and charged on Friday morning by Bruges investigating judge for a double assassination, his lawyer Suzy Cooleman confirmed. The suspect confessed to the murders.

Two bodies were found on Thursday morning in a house in Aartrijke, part of the West Flanders commune of Zedelgem. The suspect had already handed himself into the police. He admitted to having killed his sister and her husband but did not explain why.

The investigating judge has requested he be remanded in custody until at least Tuesday. His fate will then be decided when he goes before the Council Chamber.
