A SNCB controller was attacked on Sunday morning at Tournai station. After an arrest warrant was issued, the suspect was taken into custody, the Prosecutor’s office said on Monday.
Three individuals attacked four controllers on a platform at Mouscron station on Saturday morning. The Prosecutor’s office has released no more information about this incident. This new attack happened in Tournai on Sunday morning.
While he was explaining to a passenger that they had got the wrong line or train, a controller was attacked by the individual. The SNCB agent was punched once or several times. “The attacker tried to run away, but was intercepted by a police patrol in Tournai. When he was arrested, the man was in possession of a cutter. Remanded in custody, the suspect first gave the police a false identity. A little research revealed the man was actually on parole. There was an arrest warrant in his name due to a conviction dated after his release. Back to square one: prison”, says Frédéric Bariseau, King’s Prosecutor for Tournai.
