The suspect in the Delhaize acid attack extradited to Belgium on Tuesday morning

Jelle F, the Dutchman suspected of attacking a cleaner with acid in a Delhaize store in Antwerp on the 20th of February, will be extradited to Belgium on Tuesday morning. This was revealed by the Brussels Prosecutor’s office. He will be handed to the Brussels federal judicial police, and go before an investigative court that evening.

At the end of October, Jelle F (42) left Amsterdam, where he worked as an administrative employee at a shipbuilding facility, to move to Barcelona. Belgian investigators have since found out he never went there. He went to Belgium during this time, and claimed responsibility for an acid attack in a Delhaize store in Antwerp on the 20th of February.

A 52 year old cleaner was injured during this attack. She was seriously burned, and also had internal injuries. She was taken to hospital and kept in an artificial coma, from which she has since woken up.

A man claimed responsibility for the acid attack that same day. He had been trying to extort Delhaize for several months. Last December, the supermarket chain received two letters, in which the writer threatened to attack customers with acid. They were also sent to the Belga agency. Before and after February’s acid attack, Delhaize transferred 40,000 euros to bank accounts, linked to anonymous prepaid French credit cards, belonging to the blackmailer.

Early on the 6th Of March, Jelle F was arrested by French police during a road check near Paris. During a thorough search of his car, evidence linking him to the Delhaize acid attack in Antwerp was uncovered. He was not against being extradited to Belgium.
