Farid Bamouhammad’s new application for provisional release settled on Friday

Farid Bamouhammad’s new application for provisional release on medical grounds will be dealt with by the sentence enforcement court in Brussels, revealed one of his attorneys, Marc Nève, on Thursday. The enforcement judge will make his decision at some point during the day. The application was submitted at the end of last week. Farid Bamouhammad voluntarily went back to Saint-Gilles prison on April 1st, at the request of the Brussels public prosecutor. His attorneys let it be known on the same day that they would submit another application for his provisional release on medical grounds to the enforcement judge.

Farid Bamouhammad was released from prison on November 30th, 2014, for medical reasons, after he went on hunger strike.  After several stages in the process, the Liege court of appeals reviewed his release order. 4 months after leaving prison, Farid Bamouhammad was summoned to go back to Saint-Gilles prison by the public prosecutor in Brussels, to conform to the new decision. “The fact that this voluntary return took place smoothly is a very positive step in view of the past 4 months,” highlighted the attorney Mr. Marc Nève.

Mr. Nève pointed out on Thursday that he has letters from doctors and psychiatrists dealing with his client for the past 4 months, saying that Farid Bamouhammad’s health issues cannot be treated in prison.
