Tax fraud: 1.385 billion euros in 2014

The fight against tax fraud led to an extra 1.385 euros being claimed in 2014, 82 million more than in 2013. That’s a little less than in 2012, the Sudpresse papers revealed on Monday. “This sum includes tax supplements (corrections) and sanctions, which represents around a third of the tax claimed (corrections). Respectively, there was 1.050 billion euros of tax claimed in corrections and 334 million euros in sanctions”, says Francis Adyns, spokesman for the Finance SPF.

Although tax fraud is mainly committed by moral persons – VAT fraud, for example, mainly concerns ghost companies – individuals also add to the figures. The total claimed from individuals due to fraud was 29.7 million euros.
