Brussels: 40 000 euros stolen by 4 “shoulder surfers” who have been arrested

Four men suspected of stealing up to 40 000 euros by “shoulder surfing” were arrested in Brussels on Tuesday. The 18 incidents they are suspected of with took place between the 30th of April and the 31st of July. They struck in several stations, including the central station, the Brussels Prosecutor’s office said on Thursday. The four men, aged between 28 and 31, were charged with associating with criminals, pickpocketing and illegally staying in the country.

The suspects always used the same method: they observed their victim when they entered their bank card code in a Bancontact terminal or a ticket machine, and stole the victim’s wallet using pickpocketing methods. They sometimes even wrenched the wallet out the victim’s hand.

They were arrested on Tuesday.
